How do you handle unsolicited critiquing of your work? I know people (friends and family etc.) mean well but, it’s frustrating to go through the entire process of writing and recording only to have folks think they need to offer advice when you’re not looking for it. I do the process for my fun and if others like it that’s really cool. If they don’t care for it that’s fine too. What are your thoughts? How do hande it ?
I have a bigger issue trying to get anyone to listen anymore! LOL
But yeah, some people think they HAVE to say something constructive when all that most of us need is some sort of acknowledgement - preferably an “I like it!” … but “I had a listen, well done” would be ok.
Some people seem embarrassed they can’t say something positive. They WANT to say something positive, I think, but it isn’t what they want to listen to… but they still feel they have to say something… so they start telling you how they’d like it better.
I think that’s what happens with many people.
It definitely seems to happen with friends and family.
How do I handle it? Ummmm… I try to take it as I think it was meant (ie kindly). At least they said something.
Can be a little frustrating though.
I don’t know.
I don’t have that problem because no one listens. Even when I force stuff down their throats they still just ignore me. I think I am okay with that though. I just make music for my own personal kicks, I guess.
Ha-ha, I know what you mean Yeah, I make music for the fun of it (most of the time it’s fun. you get it.) Thanks for responding!
