New persistent player

You might have noticed there’s a new persistent player. It should (finally) let you browse around while keeping playback going. It won’t play over the forum, unfortunately, but everywhere else!

Yay! Thank you! I was thinking the other day that this is something alonetone needs, and there it appeared!

i just open another alonetone to play the things I want while scrolling around on alonetone… seems to work fine that way…

oh yEAH… this works a treat! cool thanks

Its good, but… how do I get rid of the window when I’ve finished listening and want to do ‘other’ stuff?

Good idea. Would pressing “ESC” work for you? If so I can get that in. Guess I could also add an “X” somewhere?..

The ESC key would work fine, but I think an X would be more obvious for everyone, it was what I first looked for.

I was confused about this player at first, but I would prefer the X or ESC function to close the player.

Just thinking out loud… feel free to ignore or tell me to shut up. What about embedding the player in the title bar where the search is? that way it wouldn’t be floating over other parts and getting in the way.

I’ll go back to sitting in the corner and staring at the crack in the ceiling now.

Yep, I’m digging the new player, saw it first the other week. I too was thinking “how do you close it?” but it didn’t worry me too much because I instinctively open all links in a new window on AT (and many other sites).

I immediately tried Esc. So yes, I’d vote for at least an Esc action, that’s what I’d use (and a x somewhere on it too would be good for everyone I guess).

Yeah, I also thought this when we were designing it. I think it would just have to be fairly small.

It could also just be perma-docked at the bottom, full width. I think it “overlaying” the rest of the site is what is “new” and sort of disconcerting…
